I've taught high school students about writing (and literature) for 17 years, so now it's time to turn the tables a bit, practice what I preach. Presently, I teach AP Language and Composition and American Literature at Hononegah High School. I've also served as the fall play director, my union president and vice president, and the sponsor of a tolerance group called P.A.C.T. (Promoting Acceptance Creates Tolerance) and a GSA (Gay-Straight Alliance). I am the recipient of the 2008 Those Who Excel Award for Hononegah and earned an Award of Merit in the Those Who Excel program from the Illinois State Board of Education.
Before I started teaching, I was the news director at KRNA, INC., in Iowa City, Iowa where I earned awards and received recognition for my work from Women in Communications and the Iowa Broadcast Journalists Association.
I have a B.A. in English from Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri, graduate hours from The University of Iowa in theater history, an M.A.T. in Secondary English Education from The University of Iowa and an M.S. in Integrating Technology in the Classroom from Walden University.
I'm an avid motorcyclist, cook, and reader, and I love to ski, sail and travel. My longest motorcycle ride was a family trip to Alaska in the summer of '04. I've been to nearly every state in the union. Internationally, I've traveled to Columbia, the Caribbean, Canada, Mexico, Spain, Australia and most recently, Vietnam.
I currently live with my partner, Roger, in Janesville, Wisconsin, in a beautiful Victorian house that springs a leak a week. I have two children in college. Next year my son, Zach, will be a senior at DePaul University in Chicago, and my daughter, Courtney, will be a sophomore at The University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa.
